This book is beautifully written with deep and complex characters and a riveting plot, much like the other books in The Companion Series. It seems that Susan Squires has a penchant for the extremely tortured hero and the vulnerable heroine. Their love blossoms even when the hero feels himself so damaged as to be unlovable. I will warn you, however, that each of the books so far in this series has vivid descriptions of rape and torture written from the victim's point of view as well as some gruesome deaths. So if you have a weak stomach or don't think you could get past those scenes to the love story within, this is not the series for you. I prefer to read the series in chronological order with the second book read first and the first book read second rather than in the order they were written since the events of the second book happen years before the events of the first. That is a personal preference however, and as I have read them in the order they were written, I will say it doesn't hurt that much to read them in written order either. But next time I will read them chronologically instead.

ONE WITH THE NIGHT IS A PARANORMAL LOVE STORY FILLED WITH ACTION AND SUSPENSE. WE ARE INTRODUCED TO JANE AND CALLAN. BOTH SEEKING CURES TO BEING A VAMPIRE. JANE WAS ACCIDENTALLY INFECTED WITH BLOOD AND CALLAN WAS TURNED BY A VAMPIRE. JANE'S FATHER IS WORKING ON A CURE FOR HIS DAUGHTER, JANE. CALLAN IS HOPING THAT JANE'S FATHER FINDS A CURE SO HE MAY FINALLY BE HUMAN AGAIN SO HE CAN KILL HIMSELF. HE VOWS TO PROTECT JANE AND HER FATHER. I LOVE SUSAN'S DIFFERENT INTAKE ON THE VAMPIRE. I LIKE THAT BLOOD IS NOT THEIR MAIN FOOD SOURCE. THEY CAN EAT FOOD JUST LIKE HUMANS. MOST VAMPIRES ARE BETRAYED AS BEING THESE BLOOD THIRSTY CREATURES WHO CRAVE HUMAN BLOOD. THEY ARE EVIL, SINISTER, HAVE NO EMOTION AND WILL KILL FOR WHAT THEY WANT. SUSAN'S VAMPIRES ARE SO ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. YES THEY STILL CRAVE HUMAN BLOOD BUT THEY CAN MAKE A CHOICE TO BE EVIL OR GOOD. JUST LIKE HUMANS WHO ARE GOOD AND EVIL. VAMPIRES HAVE FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS JUST LIKE HUMANS BUT THEY NEED TO LEARN TO CONTROL WHO THEY ARE.

I FOUND JANE TO BE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. SHE WAS VERY STRONG AND CARING PERSON WHO ALWAYS TOOK CARE OF EVERYONE ELSE. JANE ENJOYED BEING A MIDWIFE AND WOULD SNEAK OUT AND HELP THOSE WHO NEEDED HER HELP. SHE LET HER FATHER DEFINE WHO SHE WAS BECAUSE SHE WANTED TO MAKE HIM HAPPY. I THOUGH HER FATHER TOOK AWAY HER CONFIDENCE AND KEPT HER FROM BEING THE WOMAN SHE WAS. JANE MEETS CALLAN, A VAMPIRE WHO HAS BEEN ABUSED AND USED BEYOND MEASURE. HE BELIEVED HIMSELF TO BE EVIL. BUT CALLAN WAS JUST A LOST SOUL WHO NEEDED TO FORGIVE HIMSELF. JANE IS THE PERFECT PERSON FOR CALLAN. SHE CAN HELP HIM HEAL AND MOVE ON. AS CALLAN AND JANE GET TO KNOW ONE ANOTHER, CALLAN REALIZES HE IS FALLING IN LOVE WITH JANE. CALLAN REALIZES THAT JANE IS INNOCENT AND GOOD PERSON. HE WILL DO WHATEVER HE CAN TO PROTECT HER. CALLAN DOESN'T CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO HIM. HE HAS TO PROTECT THE WOMAN HE HAS FALLEN IN LOVE WITH. WILL JANE'S FATHER FIND A CURE? WILL CALLAN BE ABLE TO PROTECT JANE FROM OTHER VAMPIRES? YOU WILL HAVE TO READ ONE WITH THE NIGHT TO FIND OUT.

I REALLY ENJOYED ONE WITH THE NIGHT. I WAS INSTANTLY DRAWN INTO THE STORY. I LOVE READING ABOUT VAMPIRES AND I LOVE HAVING ROMANCE IN THE STORY. THIS BOOK WAS ALSO FILLED WITH ACTION, SUSPENSE AND EVEN SOME MYSTERY. SUSAN KEPT YOUR ATTENTION THROUGHOUT THE STORY. THERE WERE SO MANY OBSTACLES JANE AND CALLAN HAD TO FACE. THE AUTHOR KEPT YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT BECAUSE YOU DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT. I HAVE READ TWO OF SUSAN SQUIRES' BOOKS IN THE SERIES INCLUDING THIS ONE AND I HAVE ENJOYED BOTH OF THEM. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU READ ONE WITH THE NIGHT AND ANY BOOK BY SUSAN SQUIRES. SHE IS A VERY GOOD WRITER AND YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH HER CHARACTERS AND THE STORY. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO READING MORE BOOKS BY HER.
Excellent story of Jane and Callan. Lots of tension, romance and suspense. As always, Susan Squires kept me riveted and wanting more. You'll enjoy this continuing saga of the Companion Series.
I love Susan Squires, her books take something we have read for so long and puts them into a totally different era!
Jane Blundell is turned into a vampire when she comes in contact with vampire blood. Her father, an obstetrician by trade, determined to find a cure for Jane, whisks her off to the Irish countryside with her and sets up a lab.

Callan Kilkenny reads an article about vampirism by Jane’s father and sets out to find the doctor, hoping in doctor has or is in the process of finding a cure. But there are problems. The born vampires are determined to stop Jane’s father from finding a cure and when Callan first shows up to the lab, he finds himself fighting for the lives of Jane and her father.

This story was way different that what I expected. The author does a wonderful job of using the Irish dialogue when Callan is speaking, which makes his character true to life. I loved Jane, her compassion and strength gave her character warmth. This was good read and I recommend to anyone who loves a sexy, steamy and interesting vampire tale.
